Notorious Trio and Chrissy Fowler take to the stage for your dancing pleasure at the Belfast Flying Shoes Contradance, Friday November 6th at 8pm.
Lauded as "sparkling" and "exhilarating” Notorious musicians Eden MacAdam-Somer, Larry Unger return to Belfast Flying Shoes Dance Series for another incredible evening of music and dance, this time they'll be joined by Sam Bartlett to form the Notorious Trio. If you haven't heard them yet, it won't take you four beats to realize that this isn't just any ordinary band. Sweet vocals and virtuosic fiddling coupled with driving rhythm and snappy guitar solos make for a thrilling musical experience in genres that span many continents. Declared “guitar genius” by Sing Out Magazine, Unger joins with “rabid” mandolinist Sam Bartlett, and “demon fiddler” Eden MacAdam-Somer to push the envelope towards swing, blues and Gypsy modes. Come see how many ways they can metamorphosize 64 beats!
Dancers will be treated to the soothling calling of Belfast's own contra dance caller Chrissy Fowler. Chrissy cheerfully leads folks of all ages in traditional New England social dance. She is gifted at building community through dance and movement with tasteful, clear, and fun dances.
The Belfast Flying Shoes Contradance takes place on the First Friday of each month at the American Legion Hall Post #43, 143 Church Street, Belfast. The evening begins at 6:30pm with a Community Dance for all ages, led by Chrissy Fowler with music by The All-Comer's Band. From bassoon to banjo, all musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in the fun. $2 adults, $1 kids. At 7:30pm bring a finger food snack for the Tasty Treat Potluck. At 8:00pm the contrdance featuring Notorious Trio will begin. $8 adults, and $6 Teens.
Everyone is welcome, come with or without partner, and a clean soft soled pair of shoes to change into (street shoes are not allowed on the dance floor). No experience necessary.
