To celebrate sustainable seafood choices and raise awareness about BC seafood products, SeaChoice, Canada’s sustainable seafood program, and Slow Food Vancouver are proud to announce a seafood tasting workshop: For the Love of Fish - From Producer to Plate. This event is sure to please both culinary and conservation en...thusiasts alike
The sustainable seafood movement has been increasing momentum significantly. SeaChoice staff members receive a steady stream of questions from the public, who are in search of sustainable seafood options, and wishing to find out more about SeaChoice recommended seafood. Slow Food Members are also in search of sustainable options and have a particularly keen interest in supporting local producers of food that is good, clean and fair.
At this event, 100 guests will be treated to a scrumptious guided tasting of various BC sustainable seafood dishes, prepared by chefs from local restaurants like C and Nu Restaurants, Bishop’s, Tojo’s, Provence Mediterranean Grill, and Bluewater Café who will highlight the culinary possibilities of each seafood item. Fishermen and farmers will be present to talk about their featured products, complemented by a visual presentation from SeaChoice about the sustainability of the fisheries. The tasting will be followed by a question and answer session. Guests will leave this event with a very close connection to our local seafood options, from producer to plate.
SeaChoice (http://www.seachoice.org) is a program run by a coalition of five leading Canadian conservation organizations working together to raise public awareness of the threats to oceans and the solutions that sustainable fisheries and aquaculture offer. SeaChoice brings together broad national expertise from the:

Invasion of the snail continues with the 2nd Annual Bike the Blossoms to be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2009.
Bike the Blossoms is presented by Slow Food Vancouver in partnership with the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival and the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition.
The cycle tour runs from 10am - 4pm, arrive and leave ...when you want. There are three start locations - VanDusen Gardens, Britannia Community Centre and Kitsilano Community Centre.
This self-guided tour is fun for the whole family! Enjoy a leisurely ride, stopping at the community centres to meet local farmers. Many farmers will provide an opportunity to sample or purchase their products that may include lavender inspired treats, hazelnut treats, artisan cheeses,
vegetables and other food items as well. Fraser Valley Duck and Goose is partnering with C Restaurant to bring you special duck tasting treats!
Registration with Brown Bag Tickets, the first and only fair-trade ticketing service!
Slow Food Vancouver in partnership with The Drive Business Improvement Association, has created the Slow Taste of the Drive for this year’s Bike the Blossoms. As part of our aim to increase the food element and the level of engagement between local farmers and city folk, we have invited selected eateries & restaurants on Commercial Drive to offer a Slow Taste. So, after
visiting the farmers at Britannia Community Centre, take a stroll along “the Drive”. Find the slow food snail in the windows of participating eateries and enjoy their Slow Taste creations. Eateries and restaurants will offer one (or more) of their current food items (or create one specific for the event) to be designated a Slow Taste. The intent is that their Slow Taste will embody and represent Slow Food which is good, clean and fair. Slow Tastes will feature ingredients:
· that are organic, local and fresh; or
· from our food partner BOSA Fine Foods; or
· from participating farmers in Bike the Blossoms.
